Is our voting age to young?

There has been many speculations to the rumor that young Americans want the voting age to be dropped down to the age of 16.  At the age of 16 most student in high school have not even completed all the required history courses to graduate.  I believe at the age of 16 you are simply to immature to understand the concept of the government and all the politics that goes into it.  The average age for American voters these days is 44.  Simply lowering the age down to 16 wouldn't help lower the average age of voters.  It would help though with raising the expectations society has for younger Americans.  The young would have much at stake and it is morally reprehensible for the older voters to elect officials willing to pile debt on the young to benefit the old.  Either way the voting age goes it has its pros and cons to lowering the voting age.
